One player labeled was Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts, who admittedly has not lived up to the bidding of his fourth overall selection in 2021.A good chunk of fantasy football managers have already written off Falcons tight endas a bust, but Im kindly requesting one more season of patience before we to s him overboard. There are two reasons fantasy managers might consider extending the olive branch to Pitts in 2024, the first being health, and the second being the opportunity for a ma sive increase in catchable targets.Lets first addre s the health component. In his second NFL season, Pitts suffered a knee injury that ended a fairly disastrous campaign after just 10 games, where he caught 47.5% of targets for 356 yards and Frank Clark Jersey two touchdowns. Though he returned to play a full season in 2023, Pitts eventually announced that hePitts has seen a decline in his receiving grade over each of the past two seasons and is coming off a year where he posted career lows with a 12.6 yards per reception average, 2.5 yards after the catch per reception and 1.43 yards per route run brutal. However, his 82.8 receiving grade and 2.02 yards per route run as a rookie both ranked top-two among rookie tight ends dating back to 2010 (min. 50 targets).As someone skeptical of the Pitts pick, Chris Jones Jersey I can say that 2024 is not a make-or-break season for Pitts, fantasy or otherwise.When adding context, Pitts' declinewasalmost expected. In his breakout rookie season in 2021, Pittswas utilizedas everyone thought he would be. He and fellow offensive weapon Cordarrelle Patterson were the driving forces of a Falcons offense that sputtered to a measly 5,164 yards, thefor a Matt-Ryan-led Falcons team since his second year in the league (2009).After the Deshaun Watson fiasco, another player that Magdziuk mentioned on this list,Ryanasked for a trade, leaving the Falcons Eric Scott Jr. Jersey without a ready-made solution for the position. Their solution on the fly? Acquire the quarterback Smith benched in 2019 for Ryan Tannehill in Marcus Mariota and draft his heir apparent in Desmond Ridder in the third round of the 2022 draft.Under Mariota, due to his limitations as a downfield pa ser, Pitts' role switched to that of more of a traditional tight end. Pitts was chipping and blocking for downfield concepts much more than you would expect a player of his caliber to be.That is, until he suffered a season-ending knee injuryafter catching a Mariota pa s acro s the middle against the Chicago Bears. Pitts' 2022 seasonendedwith 59 targets over those ten games, hauling in 28 of them for only 356 yards.After rushing back and participating in the 2023 season, Pitts seemed sluggish and certainly not at the same caliber of route-runner/ball-winner he was Breeland Speaks Jersey in 2021. Pitts later revealed he was still suffering from that same knee injury, a PCL/MCL surgery that was perceived as only an MCL injury when first announced. Despite the injury and the musical chairs that the Falcons were playing at quarterback, Pitts still managed to play all 17 games. He finished with 53 receptions on 90 targets for 667 yards. Pitts averaged 12.6 yards per reception,a mark thatwas second in the league to only George Kittle (min. 45 targets).In 2024, the Unicorn is back fully healthyand just had his fifth-year option picked up,which means a plan is in place for Pitts. Pitts, along with other first-round picks Bijan Robinson and Drake London, are the clear headliners of this offense that offensive coordinator Zac Robinson will be constructing for them and new starting quarterback Kirk Cousins, whose tight end Laurent Duvernay-Tardif Jersey T.J. Hockenson was tied with Kansas City's Travis Kelce to lead all tight ends in targets with 68 before being injured in week eight of the season.So, is Pitts in a make-or-break season? No, Pitts' leash is quite long, as he will be a Falcon through 2025, barring anything catastrophic happening. However, the flashes do need to come earlier rather than later for the fourth-year tight end. Luckily, with Cousins at the helm and plenty of weapons to take the onus off him, Pitts could be seen more as a breakout candidate than a player in a make-or-break situation.
